A family of four on Three Notched Road in Crozet experienced a devastating fire in their home. The house has been deemed a total loss. The couple and their two children were fortunate to escape from the home unharmed but were unable to rescue any of their possessions from the home. The fire crews responding to the call were able to get the fire under control relatively quickly but not, unfortunately, before the home was deemed a total loss. Albemarle County Fire Rescue attributes the cause of the fire to having “combustible materials too close to an operating electrical appliance.” The family is being assisted by the Red Cross.
It can be hard to know where to turn after a fire in your home. You’re likely staying outside of your home and have few, if any, of your personal belongings. You might not know where to begin to rebuild your life. You will need to file a claim with your insurer for your loss as soon as possible after the fire. However, your insurance company might not have your best interests at heart. You may wish to hire an attorney to help you recover everything you’re owed under your insurance policy.
Hiring an attorney will mean that someone is standing up to protect your rights with the insurance company, since the company has every interest in closing your claim as soon as possible and for as little money as possible. Additionally, an attorney will know the best experts to hire to investigate the fire and determine its causes. If it appears that an appliance or other faulty product was responsible for the fire, then your attorney can pursue a product liability claim against the manufacturer or distributor for the damages the product caused.
If you have experienced a fire in your home, and you fear that your insurance company won’t pay out the full value of your claim, seek out experienced legal assistance who will stand up for you. Contact the knowledgeable and compassionate Charlottesville attorneys at Buck, Toscano & Tereskerz for a free consultation on your claims, at 434-977-7977.
