ATTORNEYS Patricia ("Patti") Tereskerz Patricia ("Patti") Miller Tereskerz is a 1992 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law. Ms. Tereskerz also was awarded a B.A. in economics, and a Master's degree in hospital epidemiology and a Doctorate degree focused on epidemiology, from the University of Virginia. Ms. Tereskerz, who is also an epidemeologist, joined the firm in 1992, and since that time has focused her practice in the area of personal injury law, particularly with regard to persons who have been seriously injured as a result of motor vehicle accidents, construction accidents, medical malpractice, or from the use of defective products. She also has practiced in the area of domestic relations. Ms. Tereskerz is currently "Of Counsel" to the firm. Whether through representation of individual clients or in undertaking national public policy initiatives, Ms. Tereskerz's career has been devoted to protecting the rights of individuals who have been injured or who are at risk of injury. She is the author of a handbook published on needlestick injuries and the law, and is one of the authors of a book on the prevention and management of occupational exposure to HIV. More recently, she has just completed a book recommending changes in laws and regulations to better protect patients and research study volunteers from conflicts of interest that physicians, other researchers, and medical institutions have that may threaten the patient's or volunteer's safety. Ms. Tereskerz is also an Associate Professor at the University of Virginia (U. Va.) Medical School in the Center for Biomedical Ethics, where her work is devoted to protecting patients and research subjects in the healthcare system. She previously served as Director of Health Law and Policy at the International Healthcare Worker Safety Center at U.Va. She has served as a reviewer of articles for several leading professional journals, and has also served as a member of various editorial boards and committees. She has over 70 publications in areas of both law and medicine, some of which have appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), and the Milbank Quarterly. She is a member of the Virginia State Bar and the Charlottesville-Albemarle Bar Association. Mrs. Tereskerz is married to Terry L. Tereskerz, and they have two children. Her hobbies include sailing and horseback riding.
